"This is not a book about improving the world,
but about self-improvement."
Andreas Salcher shows with many moving examples that every attempt to seize an opportunity, no matter how small, can become a fascinating experience.
We don't always have the power to change the big things in the world, but we do have the power to correct the small ones.

An old Indian sat around the campfire with his grandson
It was already dark and the fire crackled as the flames flickered into the sky. After a while of silence, the old man said: "Do you know how I feel sometimes? It's as if there are two wolves fighting in my heart. One of them is vengeful, aggressive and cruel. The other, on the other hand, is loving, gentle and compassionate." - "Which of the two will win the battle for your heart?" asked the boy. "The wolf I feed," replied the old man.
We definitely have no time to waste
The unpleasant thing about the internet age is that, firstly, we can find out about everything very quickly with just a few clicks of the mouse and, even worse, our actions are easily traceable. If we continue to torment the planet for another 20 years, it will strike back at some point. The clues are clear. No one knows exactly when the critical points will be reached at which the systems will tip irreversibly. However, no serious scientist doubts that these exist and that we are in a race against time. Only nature knows this clock and does not show it to us.
The most important message is quite simple: you have the freedom of choice. Maybe sometimes not in your actions, but at least always in your thoughts. The more consciously you choose, the more powerful you are. Humanity has proven many times in the past that it has an incredible collective ability to solve its problems. If we direct this creativity towards surviving together, then we have the opportunity to do so.
We were born with one heart and one brain. All of mankind's great advances have always been the result of imagination and intellect. Don't let anyone put you in the box of "rational person" or "emotional person". Our inner conflicts between reason and emotion always arise when we cannot see the whole picture. Our world needs more people who can think and empathize. As here by word, so in life by deed.
